CARPET
PROTECTORS & STAINBLOCKERS |
The purpose of carpet
protectors is just what the name implies — these are chemical
coatings that are designed to protect the carpet against soil,
stains, wicking, and/or static electricity.
Fluorochemicals,
such as Teflon ® Advanced
and Scotchgard ™ Protector
for Carpet and Upholstery, change the surface energy of fibers
and provide soil resistance as their primary function. Additionally,
they help fibers resist both water-based and oil-based spots
and spills. |

- Dupont Teflon Advance carpet protector
|
Teflon ® Advanced delivers
its protection by forming a molecular shield around each
carpet fiber. The shield lowers the surface energy of the
carpet fibers causing them to repel liquid spills and dust
and dirt. This helps prevent dirt and stains from being ground
into or absorbed by the fibers. Undetectable by sight, smell
or touch, Teflon protects all kinds of carpets and upholstery.
The repellent characteristic of Teflon (which creates a unique
invisible shield around carpet fibers) keeps dirt from sticking
to the fibers, making carpets easier to care for. This helps
carpets look cleaner and fresher longer.
DuPont recommends the application of Teflon
Advanced after each cleaning on all carpet types,
even those with built-in soil and stain protection. For
added protection and increased peace of mind, Teflon Advanced
carpet protector is CFC- and solvent-free. It leaves no
unpleasant odor. |
- 3M Scotchgard carpet protector
|
The Scotchgard
(TM) carpet protector label means that the carpet
has been treated at the mill when it was manufactured,
locking the protection onto the fiber. It is a durable
treatment, but the exact length of time the protection
lasts is dependent on a number of variables, such as
the amount of foot traffic, the frequency of spills,
and how often the carpet is vacuumed or steam cleaned.
Even
though it provides long lasting benefits, 3M
recommends that Scotchgard be reapplied after
every hot water extraction. 3M recommends using a reputable
professional cleaner. Use of the professionally applied
Scotchgard carpet protector aftermarket treatment enhances
and adds to the protection on your carpet.
New
3M Scotchgard Protector helps carpets and
furnishings resist stains from both oil and water
based foods, including soft drinks, coffee, tea,
red wine and grease. It also makes blotting up liquid
spills easier, helps stains release more easily when
carpet and upholstery are cleaned, revitalizes mill
applied stain protection. The protector is CFC- and
solvent-free. It leaves no unpleasant odor.

| Stain Resist Carpet Protectors |
| Acid dye and Acid Dye
Blockers: Sometimes
called stain blockers , acid dye blockers work by
blocking the positively charged nylon dye sites, thus preventing
(theoretically) staining by acid dyes. Acid dye resistance
is the additional property built into fifth generation
nylon fiber (stain resistant carpets). |
- StainBlockers or Stain
Resist Carpet Protectors
|
| Acid dyes |
- are negatively charged
anionic dyes primarily used on nylon as well as wool
and other animal fibers. Seldom used on cotton. These
are also the dyes commonly used to artificially dye drinks,
candies, etc., including Kool-Aid ® |
| Acid dye blockers |
- are negatively charged anionic naphthalated phenolic
resins that act like colorless dyes and cause nylon fibers
to resist most common household food and beverage stains
containing acid dyes by occupying remaining dye sites. |
